The Voice

She approached the unfamiliar door and nervously took the key from her pocket. She took a deep breath, unlocked the door, paused, then opened it. To her horror she saw she was back to where she escaped from. Days and days of running away from the people she despised and here they were, with malicious smiles adorning their faces. The stuff directly from her nightmares right in front of her. She stood there, helpless unable to move an inch. Wondering if she could bolt out in time, wondering where she had gone wrong, wondering if it was all a dream. That's when she heard it. The voice that helped her all this time reverberating though the walls of the old house.  She made a snap decision and decided to follow the voice. The voice called out to her being. It was her salvation. Her only hope and she was so tired of everything. She ran into the house, taking them by surprise.  She bolted through the ruined corridors, searching, the echo of their laughter sent chills down her spine w...

Oxidation  and  Reduction This is another concept which continued to be confusing. The basic idea about oxidation and reduction is given below For example, The basic idea behind this concept is taught when we are at school. It is always related to the loss, gain of Hydrogen and Oxygen. In the above reaction,  Aluminium is undergoing the process of  reduction   as it is losing an Oxygen Hydrogen is undergoing the process of  o xidation  as it has gained the Oxygen    Till here it is quite simple. But loss and gain of electrons gets tad confusing. But there is way you can remember which is which.  LEO- L oss of  E lectron:  O xidation  Reduction is the opposite of the above. For example  Here,  Aluminium is losing three electrons which implies it is undergoing the process of  Oxidation Silver on the other hand is gaining electrons which implies it is undergoing the process of  Reduction That gives ...

Chemistry was initially quite difficult for me to understand. Here are a few basic concepts which when understood perfectly will help. I am assuming you have an idea about some things in chemistry. Bonds Chemical bonds are of four basic types: Ionic bond Covalent bond Hydrogen bond van der Waals interactions  Organic compounds generally contain covalent bonds. Covalent bonds are formed by sharing of electrons so that individual atoms get a stable configuration. It is of two types,  Sigma bond Pi bond Sigma bond is the strongest type of covalent bond which is formed by head on overlap of the atomic orbital. Pi bond is formed by the lateral overlap of the orbitals. This leads to the formation of double and triple bond. The pi bonds are shorter and stronger than sigma bond.

Introducing- Me!

For years I have had this interest towards both science and writing. One day when I was discussing career options with my English teacher (who was amazing) she told me that I could perhaps use my love for writing and mix it up with science. For years, I thought about it and decided to take a leap of faith and have started blogging. Hi! I am Manasa. A teacher by profession and has a passion towards words.  I have completed my Masters in Organic Chemistry. A subject considered so so difficult but the subject I love. Over the course of my uploads, I have decided to pick random topics in chemistry and simplify it for better understanding. Its an easy subject, trust me! You can also request for an explanation on topics and I will try my level best to simplify.  That's not all, I thought it's high time I start sharing my pieces and teeny tiny book reviews. Too much in one blog? Probably, but I plan to have fun in writing and perhaps helping too!
